It was previously occupied by Beano's second-hand record shop (see [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beanos Wikipedia entry] and [https://www.flickr.com/photos/dannytherunner/3176641747/ a photo of it in 2009]). After Beano's closed, the building spent a short spell as an "undercover market" called Stuff [https://www.flickr.com/photos/madfiddler/5448488035/ photo]; see [https://web.archive.org/web/20100227084227/http://www.retrochick.co.uk/2010/02/24/hidden-gems-stuff-in-croydon/ Retro Chick blog post].
It's aimed at parents and other carers of babies and small children, but it's fine to come in and use the cafe even if you don't have any children with you.

By July 2012 it was a child-friendly cafe and children's indoor playspace called Beanies [https://www.flickr.com/photos/kake_pugh/7610055784/ photo]. The playspace moved to [[Beanies, Whitgift Centre|a space in the Whitgift Centre]] around the end of 2014, though the cafe continued to run. By March 2015 there was new signage up for Project B (run by the same people as Beanies).
They also host film viewings of two kinds: "babes in arms" showings of contemporary adult-oriented films, and "animated/family films" aimed at children.

In February 2016 a vegan cafe called Buttercream Dreams opened in the ground floor space, though the building remained in the hands of Project B as an events company. Buttercream Dreams moved out again in June 2016. (As of July 2016 Buttercream Dreams operated as a stall on Surrey Street Market and a cafe in Camden, but both of these outlets closed down in August 2016, with the Buttercream Dreams Facebook page citing the owner's health problems as the reason.)

As of July 2016 the ground floor was used as an evening-only bar, while the owners looked for a new daytime cafe operator to replace Buttercream Dreams. We aren't sure if the cafe ever did open again.
